A timeless senses of spiritual resonance from nature and beauty is universal to most people. Haney strives to present the viewer moments in life when time and place simply slip away. His focus in painting is not so much depicting specific locations but the moods those places and moments elicit.
Born in 1964, Haney began his artist’s training at an early age. He began sketching as early as four years of age and enjoyed experimenting with various media through his early adult life. Years of studying the painting styles of the impressionist masters led him to begin painting impressionist watercolors in 1997. As his work gained popularity he opened a small gallery in Idaho to showcase not only his own paintings but work from many other artists from Idaho, Utah, Montana and Wyoming. His paintings were also sold in leading galleries in Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Montana and California.
Haney continued painting with watercolor and pastel through 2002 at which time he closed his retail business and concentrated his efforts toward other business ventures. During 2007 he began painting with oils and after some trial and error began producing some wonderful work. As with his watercolors, his painting style with oils is quite unique and very impressionistic. Each painting conveys a sense of motion and liveliness with colorful brushstrokes that swirl about the canvas. The majority of his new paintings are completed on canvas panel which provides the durability of hardboard combined with the texture of canvas. Each frame is carefully matched to a specific painting with the help of Haney’s wife, a decorator. In his studio one can often find several paintings in progress.
Haney lives in Idaho in a small country town with his wife and his two youngest children. When he is not painting, he enjoys spending time with his family, hiking, skiing, fishing and renovating his home.
